Gutter Repair Nashville

There will be some pretty obvious signs when your gutters or downspouts aren't working properly: water pouring over the sides of the gutters, sagging or hanging, rust, or visible holes in the gutters.  The problem typically starts out small and then escalates into a much larger issue over time if not addressed.  Keeping your gutters in prime condition will help prevent leaks, foundation damage, and other damage around the property.

Besides the common issue of clogged gutters (we'll get into that one later), there are four main types of gutter problems that homeowners typically encounter:

Leaking Gutters:  Even the smallest leak can cause big problems, so give us a call as soon as you notice the issue.  Small leaks can be sealed with some caulk, but if there is a lot of corrosion or gaping holes, the damage is probably too much to repair and you'll need to have your gutters replaced.

Sagging Gutters:  When the gutters sag or hang, water will pool up in that saggy area and cause extra strain, which can result in hardware failure, extra sagging, or a total collapse of that gutter section. We tend to find that lack of cleaning out the gutters, damaged fascia, or faulty fasteners are the typical causes of saggy gutters. The best solution for sagging gutters is to replace the hardware and rehang the section. If the gutters are sagging more severely or have detached from each other and/or the house, it could be time to replace them.

Improper Gutter Slope: Gutters need to have a slope of ½ inch over 10 feet in order to drain properly.  An improper slope will lead to standing water which can cause roof damage, rust, siding damage, detachment, and can also attract mosquitos. The only way to fix improper gutter slope is to have a professional rehang the gutters correctly.

Improper Downspout Positioning: If the downspouts aren't positioned several feet from your home, water will collect around the foundation and cause a lot of damage.  The best solution is to attach extensions to the bottom of each downspout so that they channel the water far enough away from the foundation.

Gutters are also prone to other types of damage from wind, hail, heavy rain, and limbs. It is a good idea to inspect them regularly in order to catch problems as they arise.  If you do come across an issue, give Nashville Roofers a call. We'll give you an honest assessment and take care of the repairs quickly in order to avoid further damage.

Gutter Guards & Covers

As we've mentioned before, keeping your gutters clean and clear of debris is extremely important for them to work effectively and keep water away from your home.  We recommend having your gutters cleaned at least twice a year, but if there are a lot of trees around your home, you'll probably need to have them cleaned more regularly.  This gets tiring and/or expensive, so we recommend that people have gutter guards installed. Gutter guards and covers help keep leaves, twigs, and other debris from clogging up your gutters.
